There are many reasons why diets fail, and the Hungry Girl Diet claims to fight these problems and help you to avoid the issues. Some are too hard to follow, others have too many restrictions (i.e. you cannot go out with friends), and some give you prepackaged food or use some other device designed to make you dependent on their diet plan, therefore leading to weight rebound.

According to the site, the show now on cable, and the book, the Hungry Girl Diet now provides you with over 100 different recipes to give you choices, and it has a few restaurants that it recommends, giving you certain food choices. But what really makes Hungry Girl Diet any better?

The Hungry Girl Diet Benefits

The Hungry Girl Diet does provide a lot of different options, and it focuses on food choices and recipes that actually sounds appealing to the everyday consumer. Hungry Girl Diet focuses on spaghetti, steak, chili cheese, or rather positive alternatives to these foods.

But unfortunately, this undermines any successful diet plan. If you eat a “simply pesto pasta”, it’s designed to help you to lose weight. But if you choose what might look like the same thing at a restaurant, it most likely has at least twice the calories, and there’s no way that it will help you to lose weight. The same goes for many of the other foods the Hungry Girl Diet provides.

What Does This Mean?

If you stick to the recipes provided by the Hungry Girl Diet, you might lose weight, as long as you also use the portion sizes provided by Hungry Girl Diet. But following the same concepts without these recipes is not healthy, and the Hungry Girl Diet is just appealing to something that tricks you into what I would call a fad diet.
