Herbal Detox Review

GNC’s Herbal Detox is an all natural colon cleanser that is supposed to rid your body of harmful toxins in just seven days.
Since some colon cleansers take as long as a month to flush your body of buildup, we decided to investigate Herbal Detox to see if it really can work that much faster.
What Does Herbal Detox Do?
With a promise of a full cleanse in just one week, we expected to see a list of powerful ingredients that react with your body quickly.
Cleanses that take longer to flush your system generally use fiber or certain types of bacteria to enhance your body’s natural elimination of wastes. However, cleanses that are supposed to work faster generally work by irritating the digestive system to actually speed up the process of elimination.
How Does It Do It?
After looking at the ingredients in Herbal Detox, we can tell that it definitely is counting on its ability to aggravate your digestive system in order to spur your body into elimination.
Although this method can be effective, it can also come at great cost to the user, making them feel sick and uncomfortable throughout the duration of the cleanse.
Ingredients like fennel seed make us think that Herbal Detox might be one of those cleanses that are less than enjoyable. Fennel, once used often in over the counter laxatives, is now banned by the FDA because it causes severe abdominal cramping, bloating and diarrhea.
Fennel is a stimulant laxative that stimulates the muscles of your colon and intestine rather than improving the health of the digestive system. Fennel seed is so powerful, in fact, that it is actually used to make the highly alcoholic beverage, absinth.
Another ingredient, goldenseal has such a strong reaction within the body that it has actually been shown to induce labor in pregnant women. For this reason, any product with goldenseal should never be used by anyone who is, or thinks she may be, pregnant.
Any Other Concerns?
Although we would rather see powerful ingredients than ingredients that are merely used as “filler”, we cannot agree with the use of ingredients that would jeopardize the user’s health.
